WHEN GOOD TIRES GO BAD

By

What’s the weirdest movie you’ve ever watched?

I’ve watched some pretty strange movies in my lifetime, but I think I’ve finally found one that takes the cake. Or should I say, takes the wheel?

The movie is called Rubber, released in 2010, and it’s about a car tire named Robert who comes to life and starts murdering people.

Yes, folks. I actually sat down and watched a movie about a homicidal tire.

And before you ask, no, I hadn’t been drinking.

There I was, sitting comfortably with my snacks, expecting some kind of horror movie. Instead, I found myself watching a tire roll around the desert, apparently having the worst midlife crisis in automotive history.

At first, Robert seems like an ordinary tire. No personality, no ambition, not even a decent set of rims.

Then suddenly, he discovers he has psychic powers and can make people’s heads explode.

Well, that escalated quickly!

I’ve heard of road rage, but this was ridiculous.

And the strangest part? I kept watching!

I could have changed the channel, folded laundry, cleaned the refrigerator, or done literally anything else. But no. I needed to know what this tire was going to do next.

Was he looking for revenge? Had somebody rotated him without his permission? Was he bitter because he’d spent his entire life being the fifth wheel?

I had questions, people. Serious questions.

At one point, I started imagining what the police report would look like.

“Can you describe the suspect?”

“Yes, officer. He’s round, black, and appears to be travelling alone.”

“Was he armed?”

“Not exactly, but he’s got a pretty nasty tread.”

“Did you get a license plate?”

“No, but I think he was a Michelin.”

By then, I’m pretty sure they’d have taken away my car keys and recommended a psychiatric evaluation.

And let’s talk about the writers for a moment.

Somewhere, somebody woke up one morning, poured themselves a coffee, and thought, “You know what would make a fantastic movie? A tire that kills people.”

Even more astonishing, somebody else agreed!

I can only imagine the casting auditions.

“Robert, can you show us some anger?”

Rolls slightly to the left.

“Beautiful! You’re hired!”

By the time the credits rolled, I was sitting there wondering what I’d just done with my life.

I’d spent an entire evening watching a tire with supernatural abilities terrorize the countryside.

And somehow, I was entertained.

Now every time I walk past my car, I find myself giving the tires a suspicious glance. I check the air pressure, compliment their tread, and make sure nobody feels neglected.

You can never be too careful.

So, what’s the weirdest movie you’ve ever watched?

Because after seeing Rubber, I’ve come to one conclusion.

Hollywood doesn’t need better writers.

It needs a wheel alignment.

With love
