What’s the most underrated movie you’ve ever watched?
Some movies entertain you for a couple of hours, and others leave you thinking long after the credits roll. The Dressmaker (2015), starring the incredibly talented Kate Winslet, is one of those films that deserves far more attention than it gets.
Set in a small Australian town, the story follows Tilly Dunnage, a glamorous and talented dressmaker who returns home after years away. But she’s not exactly welcomed with open arms. Small towns have long memories, and unfortunately, not everyone remembers things the way they actually happened.
What makes this movie so fascinating is how effortlessly it moves between humour, heartbreak, mystery, and revenge. One minute you’re laughing at the outrageous characters, and the next you’re reminded just how cruel people can be when gossip and judgment take over.
And the costumes? Absolutely spectacular!
Beneath all that beautiful fashion is a much deeper story about belonging, forgiveness, and what happens when a woman finally decides she’s had enough of being treated badly.
It’s quirky, emotional, occasionally outrageous, and definitely not your typical feel-good movie.
If you haven’t seen The Dressmaker, I’d recommend giving it a chance. Just don’t expect a predictable ending!
Have you watched it? I’d love to know what you thought.
With love
